Go the distance. Why does this phrase make me think of Rocky Balboa?
“… ’Cause all I wanna do is go the distance. Nobody’s ever gone the distance with Creed, and if I can go that distance, you see, and that bell rings and I’m still standin’, I’m gonna know for the first time in my life, see, that I weren’t just another bum from the neighborhood.” — Rocky Balboa
Forget Sly! Burgess Meredith (Rocky’s manager) is my kind of guy. I met him twice when I went the distance from east coast to west to record radio commercials with him. He was a quiet, kind man and the ultimate professional. He nailed the voiceover scripts for four spots in mere minutes. And then he was gone after posing with us for photos. For press releases, of course. (Okay, okay. I framed a print for myself.)
Photo prompt: In the Distance
Writing prompt: What directions have you taken? Think about that word a moment – directions – and the various paths you’ve traveled in life. Try drawing your life line on a sheet (or many sheets) of paper. A straight vertical line will do. At points along that line, draw all the short and long paths you’ve traveled. The paths within the paths. The detours and backtracks. What stories happened along all these paths? What paths flood you with the strongest memories? Go. Write. Have fun.
